Job Summary:
The R&D Chemist will oversee comprehensive formulation product development, encompassing tasks such as creating formulas, sourcing new raw materials, preparing samples, managing costs, and supervising process scale-up. They will engage in multiple projects, designing experiments for product development and conducting stability testing. This role requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Role & Resposibilities:
- Product Development: Develop new formulations for various types of paints, coatings, and other simple car care products. Develop new formulations or improve current formulations leading to cost efficiency, quality, and performance.
- Product Testing & Evaluation: Analyze the chemical and physical properties of prototypes and assess their performance. Conduct research and field tests on prototypes, and benchmark against competitor products when necessary.
- Experimental Design & Testing: Prepare advanced samples, materials, and equipment for laboratory tests and product development. Perform technical tests and analyses according to project requirements.
- Research Documentation & Compliance: Reviews and/or completes appropriate forms and documentation regarding research and development processes, tasks, results, and conclusions; draws conclusions and receives direction when required. Obtain data and information required for regulatory submissions and other applications.
- Technical Support: Assist the production team in scaling prototypes to commercial manufacturing. Develop product specifications and QA QC procedures for new or improved products. Provide technical support to sales and marketing teams. Supervise laboratory activities and coordinate with other departments as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Polymers and materials science knowledge: Sound understanding of polymers and materials behaviour, properties and processes. Paint formulation knowledge is advantageous.
- Analytical skills: Capable of using procedures to determine the relationship between variables, such as between two materials.
- Laboratory skills. Understand how to adapt methods into applicable routine, under limited environment. Capable of operating and maintaining most common laboratory equipment.
- Product development: Capable of creating a project from conception to release. Able to understand how to identify a need and create products that answer those needs.
- Corrosion: Understand how anti-corrosion paint works. Have experience handling and analysing EIS.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess at least Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in R&D. Doctorate candidate can waive the experience requirement.
